Air Conditioner Maintenance Tips
Air Conditioner Maintenance Tips: Feeling the cool breeze at home in the hot summers of May and June is always a great relief. Living, without the interruption of heat in summers at your place, is such a soothing experience. This can be easily experienced by taking regular care of your Air Conditioner. The weather forecast predicts the heat wave, in this summer will range between 45°C to 47°C. We should plan ahead of the summer to live without interruption in this scorching heat and save our pocket from the electricity bill.
In this article, we will discuss the Air Conditioner Maintenance Tips, so that our ACs can work efficiently this season.
1. Remove the Dust
Cleaning anything before
starting is always a best practice. The same thing goes for our air
conditioners too. Wipe your air conditioner with a dry cloth. The outside
surface can be wiped with a little water. Clean the area near the vent so that
cool air can smoothly enter your room.
Also, do not forget to cover the evaporator unit or the interior unit once the
summer or rainy season is over and AC is not required any more. It will keep
our AC and its filter safe from dust, when not in use.
2. Have a
look at Air Filter
Air conditioner filters
keep dust and contaminants away from entering the interior unit. If the room has been vacant for more than 6 months,
the time has come to change its filter. For a living space without pets,
changing the filter every 4 months is recommended. For spaces with pets, change
the filter every 60 days. Other conditions like environment, number of people,
and age of the air conditioner also affect the life of the filter. By measuring
the size of the filter, you can replace your AC filter easily. Now let’s move
outside to clean our condenser unit.
3. Outdoor
Unit
In split ACs, it is good
to clean the condenser or the outdoor unit, while due to the complexity of window
ACs, they are advised to be serviced by a professional.
Open the box of the condenser unit and put the fan aside. Remove the debris
inside the unit. These can be easily cleaned with hands. While it can be
satisfying to DIY, but it’s best to call a professional to service your AC
safely and efficiently.
Clean the fins of
an air conditioner with the fin cleaner spray. After applying spray between the
fins from the inside of the unit, keep it idle for 10 minutes and then clean it
with a gentle flow of water, moving it outwards. Do not clean it with
high-pressure, as it can damage the fins. Rinse the fins from the outside as
well. Assemble back the box of the condenser unit.
Hurray, your
condenser unit is ready to remove the heat from your room. Now let’s check our
coolant lines too.
4. Check the Coolant
Lines
Coolant lines are two
copper cables that connects the condenser to the heat evaporator unit or the
indoor unit. For keeping a room cool, the fitness of these cables is vitally
important. Check the cables if they are torn. Plus, do not forget to check the
insulation of these units. Before going with all of these processes, your air
conditioner must be disconnected from the electricity.
Before going back to our room for a final check, cover your condenser unit with
a cloth. This will protect the outdoor unit of AC from debris when not in use
till the next season.
Now, let’s get back to our room for the final check.
5. Final Test
Plug in the AC to the
electricity socket. After a few minutes of powering it on, your room should be
cool enough to dry the sweat, you got from cleaning your AC.
Conclusion
Wow, that’s cool! We have successfully cleaned our air conditioner. Congrats, now
our AC is ready to beat the summer heat, by keeping us chilled even in the
hottest environments.
